"I knew art was my destiny when I held my first crayon..."

My mission is to make you smile.

Hello, and welcome to Debbie Does Denim. Let me begin by introducing myself:
I was born and raised in sunny Southern California, which makes me an “Angelina”, AKA, “Total Valley Girl”.

I grew up as a child in the 1960’s, which was much different than growing up today. Back then, there were no computers or cell phones in our rural city. My family was considered “lower middle class”. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we managed just fine. Going to the movies, eating pop corn, and watching Feature Films on a big screen was the BEST treat, ever!  “Bambi” was my very first animated feature film experience. I fell hopelessly in love with Bambi, Thumper, and the magic of feature animation. Disney animation was the most beautiful and inspiring form of art I had ever seen, and it artistically changed my life forever! My life-long passion and fascination for animation and animals has led me to become the artist that I am today.

During the mid 1990’s, I worked for Disney and Warner Brothers Feature Animation. Thinking that my job at Disney would last forever, it was quite shocking when, in 2003, our “CAPS” (Disney’s propriety digital ink and paint software) department suddenly closed. Disney’s most massive employee lay-offs were during this time, and included 4,000 employees worldwide. Gratefully, my job in the CAPs department lasted for nearly a decade, and I am forever credited with over a dozen Feature Animated Films. I am also listed in the IMDB (International Motion Picture Database).

Life “after Disney” became an experimental journey. I went back to school and honed my skills in traditional art, digital art, multi-media, and graphic design. Over the years, for the fun of it, I started painting animal images on denim jean pockets and jackets. Although strangers were offering to buy these jackets straight off of my back, I could never part with my new creations.

So you may wonder, “Debbie, why denim?” Well, the answer is quite simple:
Denim fabric provides paintings a unique texture and appearance. When denim is layered with media such as fabric paints, acrylics, markers, color pencils, and glitter, the artwork suddenly “pops” out, and the subjects come to life.

Creating artwork is my passion. Each art piece is lovingly hand painted and custom crafted in multi-dimensional layers of paint and multi-media. Original paintings wear a shimmery, glittery, twinkle that resembles Swarovski Crystals. The sparkling colors change throughout the day and night, and the color intensity depends on the lighting of the room the painting is displayed in.
